Warnings of counterfeit EC in Uganda

The National Drug Authority (NDA) in Uganda warned consumers about counterfeit versions of Postinor-2, an emergency contraceptive sold by many retailers. The NDA has stated that counterfeit versions of Postinor-2 are being sold illegally by some drug shops and drug-related outlets.

To tell if the package is real or counterfeit, consumers are encourgaed to test the packaging by scratching a metallic object against the white band on the back of the packaging. If the word “original” and the logo of the manufacturer are displayed, then the product is legitimate. Counterfeit products do not display this information when the white band is scratched.

Anyone finding countefeit product is encouraged to report the shop to the NDA.
