UNFPA holds Global Programme Consultative Review Board

The Global Programme´s Consultative Review Board met last month to discuss the Programme´s funding situation and review progress of the five "proof-of-concept" countries: Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Mozambique, Mongolia and Nicaragua. UNFPA thanked DFID for its recent five-year pledge of £100 million which it said would help to assure the success of the Programme´s Operationalization and Scale-up Strategy, now under development.

During the discussion, UNFPA highlighted the Ethiopian government´s move to develop an accountability matrix that will define and harmonize the roles of different supply stakeholders. Global Programme funding will support this effort, along with plans for capacity building, demand creation, and commodities. Meanwhile, in Mozambique, the Ministry of Health is leading a national needs assessment which will feed into the formulation of a sexual and reproductive health (RH) strategy that will also address commodity security. Finally, the Board agreed on the importance of leveraging Coalition resources, including outreach and Working Group activities, to heighten awareness of the Global Programme and its work. For more information, contact UNFPA Technical Adviser, Ben Light.
