RH/HIV Integration Initiative meeting, February 26-29

21st February 2008

The Global AIDS Alliance, Interact Worldwide, the International HIV/AIDS Alliance, the International Planned Parenthood Federation and their Africa Regional Office, Friends of the Global Fund Africa, and Population Action International are holding a meeting from February 26-29 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. "Mobilizing for RH/HIV Integration" aims to increase funding of reproductive health (RH) and HIV/AIDS integrated proposals by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria in its upcoming Round 8 grant cycle.

This initiative will build on the achievements of a forum convened in Geneva in December 2006. There, HIV/AIDS and sexual and RH advocates, country teams, experts and government representatives discussed lessons learned, obstacles, and successes in promoting RH/HIV/AIDS integration through the Global Fund. The Round 7 effort helped to increase the number of RH/HIV/AIDS proposals submitted. The upcoming call for Round 8 proposals provides an opportunity to continue this momentum.

The "Mobilizing for RH/HIV Integration" launch meeting will provide an opportunity to review the experiences of a select group of countries in submitting integrated proposals to the Global Fund in order to submit stronger proposals in Round 8. In addition, ten focus countries will be brought together to begin planning for Round 8 proposal development (Ghana, Cameroon, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Mozambique, Zambia, Namibia, Burundi, Madagascar and Tanzania). The expected outcomes are mobilization for successful RH/HIV/AIDS proposals in Round 8 along with a coordinated advocacy plan that links global-level advocacy with national-level implementation and advocacy in Africa.
