Pill Check Week
24th June 2009
From 22-26 June, members of the Stop Stock-outs campaign will visit public health institutions to survey stock-outs of essential medicines in five sub-Saharan African countries. Country teams will visit government health facilities and, using a list of 10 essential medicines, check for what is in stock and what is stocked out. The teams will then report back the results through short messaging services (SMS) to a common site, and the data will be reflected visually in an online mapping of the region.
The aim of this innovative exercise is create a visual tool that advocates and other supply champions can use to encourage governments to honor their commitments to provide essential medicines for all.
