PATH completes Procurement Capacity Toolkit

31st May 2008

Coalition member PATH, in collaboration with WHO, has just completed Version 1 of a Procurement Capacity Toolkit that aims to strengthen the capacity of in-country public sector personnel to procure RH commodities in accordance with good procurement practices. Intended for country-level use, the toolkit contains learning modules on each of the key elements of the procurement supply process. PATH will pilot and evaluate the toolkit and related training programme in Malawi and Zambia in 2008 and 2009.

In 2004, WHO and PATH received funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to implement the Quality of Medicines project in two phases. Key outputs of the first phase included the "Interagency List of Essential Medicines for Reproductive Health" and a companion document entitled "Essential Medicines for Reproductive Health: Guiding Principles for their inclusion on National Lists". The second phase of the project features the prequalification of a core list of essential medicines and the development and piloting of this toolkit. Contact PATH Programme Assistant, Cindy Rider, for more information.
