PAI Launches The Integration Partnership

In recognition of World AIDS Day, Population Action International (PAI) is announcing a new partnership that brings together reproductive health and HIV/AIDS services to save lives.

The Integration Partnership (TIP) is a two-year initiative to increase country demand for integrating HIV and reproductive health services, including reproductive health supplies, to improve health outcomes. TIP will increase the attention and resources for integration within influential global institutions. The partnership, funded by a $2.9 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is taking place in five sub-Saharan African countries: Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania and Zambia.

Reproductive health services are the primary point of entry into the health care system for millions of women facing HIV risks, and can provide a critical pathway to prevention, care, and treatment.  Despite these benefits, there has been insufficient commitment to integration among national governments and international donors. TIP will change that by advancing commitment to integration within the Global Fund to Fight HIV, TB and Malaria, the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDs Relief (PEPFAR) and the Global Health Initiative (GHI). The partnership will accelerate demand for integrated programming in the five countries by promoting civil society involvement and informed decision-making about reproductive health and HIV programs.

TIP builds on PAI’s previous work on RH/HIV Integration, which helped to leverage millions for integrated programs and services through Global Fund grants. This project is also made possible through critical general operating support PAI receives from the Hewlett and Packard Foundations and from other foundations and individual donors.
