New study calls for better understanding of stockouts

A new study, commissioned by the Coalition, reveals that despite widespread consensus on the need to resolve contraceptive stockouts, the literature itself actually has little to say about the consequences of them—either on women’s health or the service delivery system. The study, prepared by Ibis Reproductive Health, found that most of the current literature, whether published or grey, has traditionally focused on measuring the problem, leaving the likely consequences, such as method discontinuation or reduced demand, to speculation. The study, now available through SID, was designed to identify gaps in the existing literature as a guide to shaping future research and advocacy needs.
