Mifepristone included in Ecuador’s Essential Medicines List

Ecuador’s Ministry of Health has successfully included mifepristone in its National Essential Medicines List. The long process leading up to this moment was supported by RHSC/ForoLAC and partners from CLACAI and IPAS, who provided up-to-date scientific evidence on the use and effectiveness of mifepristone as a safe abortion medication when used in combination with misoprostol. Ecuador’s accomplishment has pushed forward the availability of this key obstetric medicine in the region, just weeks after Argentina’s national laboratories became the first LAC producer of mifepristone.
