Markets Matter: Improved Access to Lifesaving Maternal Health Supplies

Wednesday 18th 07:00 @ Bella Center Congress Hall B; Room B4-1 / Event hosted by RHSC and PATH

No matter where they live, women should be able to safely deliver healthy babies. However, expecting mothers in low and middle-income countries have inadequate access to lifesaving maternal health supplies, resulting in preventable deaths due to pregnancy and childbirth. This panel, led by the Maternal Health Supplies Caucus of the Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition and PATH, will highlight the potential for market strengthening to increase access to high-quality, appropriately designed, affordable maternal health supplies globally and discuss opportunities for improving access through advocacy for market strengthening.

Panel:

  • Milka Dinev, LAC Forum and Maternal Health Supplies Regional Advisor, RHS
  • Erin Seaver, Market Dynamics Advocacy Officer, PATH

RSVP: Erin Seaver at eseaver@path.org or Milka Dinev at mdinev@rhsupplies.org

Menstrual Products: What do young women want?

Wednesday 18th 8:30-9:30 @  Youth Zone / Event hosted by RHSC and PATH

Menstruation is a natural and routine part of life for healthy girls and women, but in many parts of the world, it is shrouded in shame and fear. Cultural taboos and perceptions that menstruating women are unclean deter open discussion and societal support. Without education from parents and teachers, girls often begin menarche in isolation, with little understanding of what is happening to their bodies, and a lack of access to affordable and appropriate menstrual care products.

Participants: Closed meeting for women under 30 only. Please contact Emilie Peeters epeeters@rhsupplies.org if you are under 30 and would like to participate.

Stockouts: What Lies Behind the Empty Shelf

Supply stockouts continue to be a major barrier to contraceptive access. Empty shelves can provide insight into the relationship between contraceptive choice and rights, the role of community engagement, and national commitment.
