Executive Committee convenes in Brussels

20th May 2014

The Executive Committee met in Brussels for their first in-person meeting of 2014. Over two days, Committee members reviewed progress on the development of the Coalition's Strategy and Terms of Reference; about achievements since the Delhi meeting, discussed plans underway for this year's Membership meeting in Mexico and deliberated options for Executive and Coalition meetings in 2015. The group also learned of work underway within USAID to develop a family planning measure and benchmark for the post-2015 period: "at least 75 percent of the demand for FP satisfied with modern contraceptives in all countries by 2030."  The indicator can be disaggregated in different ways including equity, age, and education. Achieving the benchmark would achieve significant convergence between developing countries and developed countries in terms of access to family planning.  A summary of the Executive Committee meeting's key decisions will be circulated later this month.
