Coalition’s UHC statement is shared at UN

8th May 2019

Six hundred participants at a recent hearing on universal health coverage (UHC) at the United Nations heard a clarion call from the RHSC. Contraceptive prevalence is lowest among the poorest 20% of the population and highest among the richest 20%, the statement said, and the consequences are “devastatingly high”, with unwanted pregnancies resulting in increased maternal mortality. Presenting the statement, Advocacy Officer Charlotte Soulary called on stakeholders to mainstream reproductive health supplies as an integral part of the basic packages included in UHC reforms. Read the full statement, developed by a group of AAWG members. The meeting identified key priorities to raise with Heads of States at the High-Level Meeting on UHC this September.
