Coalition blog post on RH Reality Check
2nd June 2011
On 2 June 2011, a blog post by Coalition Director John Skibiak was published on RH Reality Check, an online community to advance sexual and reproductive health and rights. Mr. Skibiak's post highlights the continuing unmet need for family planning, which has remained stagnant since the 1990s at 200 million women.
While prevalence of contraceptive use has grown over the last twenty years, demand has increased simlutaneously. Funding for RH commodities must keep pace with growing use and demand; by the year 2020 an estimated US $424 million will be needed to meet the total demand for contraceptives. Ensuring RH commodity security is key to meeting the family planning demands of the worlds women.
From 20-24 June, the Coalition will host a series of events focused on RH comodity security, including Access for All, a two-day high-level meeting focusing on country ownership and commodity security.
