Annual demand for contraceptive implants expected to double by 2020
18th August 2015
Figures released 17 August at the RHSC’s “Procurers’ and Manufacturers’ Summit” suggest that the annual demand for donor procurement of contraceptive implants in FP2020 countries could reach as high as 21-23M by 2021, more than doubling current demand figures of 9-10M. The estimates derive from a new forecasting methodology developed by the Coordinated Supply Planning Team, a workstream within the RHSC’s System Strengthening Working Group that aims to rationalize UNFPA and USAID’s allocation of products with limited global manufacturing capacity. The new forecast methodology balances consumption and historical shipment forecasts with what it calls a “blended forecast”. For more information, contact Anita Deshpande at adeshpande@rhsupplies.org.
