A watershed year for the VAN

2022 was a record year for the VAN, with a historically high number of people benefitting from its services. More than 100 member organizations with almost 600 individual users tracked in real time over 7,500 shipments of 71 products across 145 countries, and for the first time, the majority of country partners using the VAN were government stakeholders⁠—from 35 different countries. The VAN’s improved visibility into product movement is helping the community to act more quickly than ever before. Over the last three years, the VAN helped mobilize more than $70 million in new orders for member countries, avoided waste by supporting product reallocation worth $4.67 million in cancelled and transferred orders, and expedited 86 orders to mitigate supply shortages. In 2022 alone, the VAN identified a critical procurement funding gap of $100 million for member countries and helped mobilize and allocate $33.3 million in new product procurements worth an estimated 12.6 million couple-years of protection.
