Partnering with midwives to deliver affordable quality

When a country is stretched out over 18,000 islands, with a population of over 250 million people, access to family planning services can be a problem. To negotiate the complex geography, powerful enough to delay the International Conference on Family Planning involving thousands of participants, one has to think outside the box. For PT. Tunggal Idaman Abdi, the answer to that challenge was clear: midwives.

Founded in 1968, the company is one of Indonesia’s pioneering pharmaceutical companies devoted to reproductive healthcare. Its unique and direct partnership with midwives, who account for 70 per cent of primary provision of family planning in Indonesia, helped reach the previously unreachable.

Midwifes

It is always rewarding to see immediate results from our continuous expansion in our coverage, reaching remote places in Indonesia. Where typically a midwife would have to travel far and incur additional cost in purchasing her supplies, our support has helped reduce these costs. This are the tangible results and outcomes that we see every day.

PT Tunggal produces a wide range of contraceptive products, both hormonal and non-hormonal, for a global and local market. However diverse their offerings are, all their products share one characteristic: affordable quality. “For us, quality is of paramount importance before anything else. That is why we are investing heavily in our facilities and are currently seeking the WHO PQ certification for our three-month injectable contraceptive which ultimately will give us the seal of quality needed to provide assurance to the both local and international users.”
