The Economic Cost of Adolescent Pregnancy in El Salvador determines the economic impact of adolescent pregnancy for the Salvadorean Government and Nation. UNFPA El Salvador calculated the cost of adolescent pregnancy from the perspective of fiscal return on social investment in order to evaluate the repercussions of this problem beyond the individual, as it affects the whole of society. It considers two dimensions: the direct costs involved in abandoning education because of pregnancy and the costs of omission, that is the tax returns that are lost due to lack of remunerated work.
