RHSC loses mentor and advocate in Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin

“Without reproductive health supplies, promises to women remain dusty dreams” expressed the late Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin’s in his keynote address to the RHSC’s 2011 Membership Meeting in Addis Ababa. Dr. Osotimehin, UNFPA Executive Director, was tireless, with an energy unmatched by colleagues half his age. He was a staunch supporter of increasing access to reproductive health supplies and a passionate defender of family planning’s unique value proposition within the broader health financing dialogue.  

The Coalition reacted in shock at the news of Dr. Osotimehin’s death yesterday. We have a lost a mentor and advocate. In appreciation of his vision and commitment, we will continue to ensure that promises to the world’s poorest women are honoured, and do not end as dusty dreams.
