The Contraceptive Social Marketing and Social Business (CSM) Report aggregates sales data from social marketing organizations (SMOs) and social businesses operating around the globe to expand access to critical family planning and safe abortion supplies. Since 1991, the CSM Report has been an important tool in supplementing public health data by providing unique insights into contributions by SMOs and social businesses to global SRH markets.
The 2024 CSM Report marks the second year that RHSC has developed and published. For over 30 years, DKT International compiled social marketing statistics, officially handing the report over to RHSC in 2023. RHSC assumed this responsibility with excitement and an eagerness to engage members around the best way to maintain the landmarks of previous editions of the report, while also looking for opportunities to broaden the impact of the report in the future. For the last two years, RHSC—guided by a multisectoral Advisory Group—has been implementing (and will continue to further expand) a user-informed design process aimed at better understanding how members would like to see the report adapted, expanded, or clarified, and responding to those needs. In this year's report you will find several updates to the report's scope, impact metrics, analyses, and historical data, all resulting from this process. We look forward to hearing how you like these changes and what future modifications you might be interested in seeing to the report.
Two new sections
This year’s report features two new sections to provide improved application of the CSM Report:
- A section that contextualizes social marketing and social business within the total market, creating a better understanding of the market segments captured. This section also includes a snapshot at optional subsidy reporting.
- A section on measuring impact, creating added analysis on the impact that SMO and social business commodity sales have on women and girls worldwide.
