RHSC welcomes Martyn Smith as new Director

1st August 2022

The Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition (RHSC) is delighted to welcome Martyn Smith as its new Director. Martyn brings 25 years of leadership in the sexual and reproductive health community, most recently with FP2030 where he served as Interim Executive Director in the year leading up to the appointment of Dr. Samukeliso Dube to that role.

Martyn will leave his current position as Managing Director at FP2030, where in addition to other responsibilities, he led political and technical engagement with 47 countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America to increase access to high-quality family planning commodities and services. He also engaged commitment-making countries to achieve their FP2020 commitments.

Prior to his position at FP2030, Martyn was Country Director for MSI Reproductive Choices in both India and Sierra Leone, as well as serving as MSI’s Deputy Regional Director for Asia.

Martyn was the unanimous choice of RHSC’s Executive Committee, following an exhaustive recruitment process with candidates from around the world.

“I have immense respect for RHSC’s pioneering work in increasing access to reproductive health supplies,” Martyn said. “I am humbled and excited at the prospect of leading – and learning from – those who struggle tirelessly to get high-quality supplies into the hands of the girls and women who need them most.”

“We are delighted to welcome Martyn on board. The search process was thorough and comprehensive, and this excellent outcome has made all the hard work worthwhile. We look forward to supporting Martyn in the coming months.”
– Frank van de Looij, Chair, RHSC

“I have known Martyn for nearly a decade and have watched with admiration his energy, enthusiasm and accomplishments within FP2020 and now FP2030,” said outgoing RHSC Director John Skibiak. “Having steered the RHSC since its inception nearly two decades ago, I feel confident in handing this brave and unique organization over to his leadership, and I cannot think of a better colleague to take on the mantle and help write the next chapter of the supplies story.”

“Martyn has been a pillar at FP2030 and will be sorely missed. But I am thrilled for the RHSC, with whom we have had a long and special friendship. We look forward to strengthening this collaboration in the days to come and wish Martyn the very best.”
– Samukeliso Dube, Executive Director, FP2030

Martyn will take up his position from mid-September 2022 and will be based in Washington, D.C.
