10th May 2008
From May 5-9, 2008, UNFPA and the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) held the last in a series of workshops designed to assist senior policy makers in Africa to achieve reproductive health commodity security (RHCS). The meeting was held at the IGAD Secretariat in Djibouti. UNFPA has collaborated in the past with IGAD to mainstream population, RH and gender into development priorities of IGAD Member States, (Djibouti, Ethiopia, Somalia, Uganda, Kenya and Sudan), and to realize the ICPD Programme of Action and the Millennium Development Goals.
Participants at the Djibouti workshop included parliamentarians, permanent secretaries of the ministries of health and finance, national media personnel, and UNFPA country representatives. The workshop familiarized participants with key SRH/RHCS issues, and with advocacy and lobbying skills in support of SRH/RHCS issues.
The meeting was reported in the Sudan Vision Daliy News Paper by one of the national media personnel trained at the meeting - click here to read the article. Also click on the following documents for more information or contact Dr. Kechi Ogbuagu of UNFPA.
