Supporting RH/HIV proposals to the Global Fund

29th February 2008

RMA Working Group members Population Action International (PAI), and IPPF, together with Friends of the Global Fund Africa, the Global AIDS Alliance, Interact Worldwide, the International HIV/AIDS Alliance, and IPPF African Regional Office, have launched an effort to assist and support Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in the development and submission of proposals to the Global Fund that RH as a critical component of HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment.

The Initiative will focus on 10 countries in sub-Saharan Africa whose Country Coordinating Mechanisms (CCMs) and civil society have expressed interest in participating in this project and in working toward submission of an integrated RH/HIV proposal for Round 8. Technical assistance will be provided to teams from these countries in proposal development, organizational capacity building, and advocacy.  The 10 focus countries are: Burundi, Tanzania, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Mozambique, Madagascar, Namibia and Zambia.

The Initiative was launched with a meeting on February 2008 26-29, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. In particular, the Addis meeting aimed to mobilize stakeholders of the nine focus countries for successful RH/HIV proposals in Round 8, and facilitate access to the needed technical support. Further, a coordinated global/national advocacy plan will be developed. After the call for Round 8 proposals is issued on March 1, 2008, the Initiative will shift its focus to work at the country level.
