Rwanda shares government procurement data in VAN

6th November 2024

In October, Rwanda loaded its self-funded procurement data into the VAN, making this the first time ever a country government has done so. By sharing this data, Rwanda stakeholders will have full visibility into family planning procurements across their own portfolio of self-procured products, as well as those procured by others on their behalf. A more holistic view of products flowing into the country means an increased ability to manage potential stock disruptions or imbalances, which ultimately leads to more clients with their family planning method of choice.

Earlier this year, Rwanda, which is a Premium member, conducted training in Kigali, funded by GHSC-PSM Rwanda. Training participants from the government of Rwanda and partners (UNFPA, USAID, CHAI, SFH and GHSC-PSM) learned how to manage their own supply plans with their global partners directly in the VAN. “This significant step Rwanda has taken to share privileged information is a testament to the trust placed in the VAN and its community,” said Jean Claude Kabera, Senior Supply Chain Specialist for the Rwanda Biomedical Centre and Rwanda’s VAN Ambassador. “Rwanda is paving the way to a future where more countries will share key data freely and benefit hugely from what the network has to offer.”
