Bayer Health Care increases access to Jadelle©
19th December 2011
This year, the phrase “Access for All” has come to represent all that we stand for as the Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition. It has come to mean equitable access to quality, affordable supplies, with improved efficiencies in procurement, financing, and distribution—all at the service of women and men seeking to ensure their reproductive health.
Today, we stand one step closer to achieving access for all. Bayer HealthCare, a member of the Coalition since 2007, has announced that it will broaden its commitment to the HANDtoHAND Campaign by reducing the price of its 5-year contraceptive implant, Jadelle©, from US$21 to US$19.50. And, in a move designed to encourage more reliable, timely procurement, Bayer will reduce its price even further—to US$19—on large orders with longer lead times.
Just these cost savings alone, over the next four years, would meet the contraceptive needs of half a million women who view Jadelle© as their method of choice—and in so doing, avert more than 550,000 unwanted pregnancies, 255,000 abortions, 1,000 maternal deaths, and 6,000 newborn deaths.
Bayer’s HANDtoHAND commitment and its collaboration with AccessRH and the Pledge Guarantee for Health represent important building blocks in our efforts to reach 100 million additional users of modern contraception by 2015.
