Course objective

The goal of this course is to increase participants’ knowledge and skills in using a data driven process to:

  • Improve accuracy of forecasts.
  • Estimate funding requirements and identify funding sources to meet mid to long term needs.
  • Develop a procurement plan.
  • Understand the utility of software packages in quantification and procurement processes.
  • Evaluate and respond to environmental or policy constraints to forecasting and procurement planning.

Participants will engage in a range of activities, including case study, demonstrations, and exercises which will provide participants with the opportunity to increase their knowledge and skills in the following topics:

  • Utilization of data from a LMIS for quantification
  • Forecasting methodologies
  • Estimating program requirements
  • Procurement

This course includes a practical application of quantification and procurement planning software tools.

This course is particularly relevant for mid to senior level staff who are responsible for planning and implementing activities to strengthen the supply chain of family planning, AIDS prevention and treatment or other health commodity logistics systems at the national level, particularly in regard to forecasting, quantification, and procurement.
