With Round 3 Innovation Fund support, John Snow, Inc. will identify, develop, and disseminate best practices in supply chain management of family planning commodities for community based distribution (CBD) programs, thereby helping to increase access to family planning products and services.

Objectives:

  • To describe current supply chain management practices and utilization of CBD in a number of countries and programs. These programs will be focused on family planning, but supply chains utilized by other health programs, for example immunization programs, and directly observed therapy, short-course (DOTS) for TB programs will be included.
  • To analyze trends and current practices for supply chain management of CBD programs.  This analysis will be used to develop best practices.

Activities conducted under this project will include conducting surveys and key informant interviews with JSI staff and external stakeholders involved in CBD programs, and analyzing current practices and identifying best practices. The primary output of this seven-month project will be a report identifying best practices in supply chain management for CBD programs, which will be widely disseminated in the reproductive health community.
