Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Reproductive Health Survey
These nationally representative surveys characteristically consist of population-based data about reproductive health indicators. Individual country needs dictate specific focuses, yet a common theme surrounds maternal health, maternal mortality, child health and youth. Surveys are conducted roughly every five years. Comparative Reports summarize and discuss similarities and differences among numerous countries’ Reproductive Health Survey results within a specified region. These reports cover a greater time range; spanning over decades. Reports include chapters on family planning, fertility, youth, HIV/AIDS, maternal and child health. Contraceptive Security Index
A tool that measures and monitors a country’s level of contraceptive security utilizing numerous indicators (i.e., forecasting, expenditure, HIV/AIDS prevalence) by focusing on the main contraceptive security components: supply chain, finance, health and social environment, access and utilization. Scores from these five focuses combine to create national composite indexes, which allows for ease of comparison amongst countries. Available in PDF via a direct link within the SID database.
Demographic & Health Surveys (DHS)
The SID database includes over 200 surveys within 75 countries spanning from 1987-2007. The USAID-funded MEASURE Project collected, analyzed and published surveys primarily focusing on contraceptive security, maternal and child health, maternal mortality, HIV/AIDS, STIs, males and youth. Helping Others Achieve their Reproductive Intentions (HARI) Index
An Index proposed by Anrudh Jain and Judith Bruce in 1994 that measures reproductive health family planning programs’ successes or failures. The index measures two components: achieving an individual’s reproductive intentions and avoiding severe reproductive health problems associated with an individual’s reproductive intentions. The index is in a theoretical stage; it has not been applied in field conditions. Available via direct links within the SID database.
John Snow, Inc. (JSI) Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) Assessment
A list of indicators to measure and evaluate reproductive health commodity security in LAC, updated in July 2007. Indicators focus on logistics systems, procurement, expenditure and contraceptive security. Available in English and Spanish via PDFs within the SID database.
POLICY Project Publication

Population Action International (PAI) Reproductive Risk Index Database
A national “report card” based on ten reproductive health indicators (i.e., maternal health, HIV/AIDS, fertility). Scoring, on a 100-point scale, occurs for each indicator. Score averages yield a total country index score. Based on overall scores, countries are classified by their risk level: very high, high, moderate, low and very low. Strategic Pathway to Achieve Reproductive Health Commodity Security (SPARHCS)
A tool applied in-country for assessing, developing and implementing commodity security. SPARHCS provides a framework and diagnostic guide to achieve reproductive health commodity security. Available via PDFs within the SID database.
The Futures Group International The Family Planning Program Effort Index (FPPEI) Publication
Codes 89 countries on program effort using the following grouped features: policy and stage-setting activities, service and service-related activities, evaluation and recordkeeping and availability of fertility control methods. United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID) Case Study
Four country level studies by DFID Health Resource Centre within Cambodia, Nigeria, Uganda and Zambia, published between 2005-2006. United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS)

A spreadsheet containing public-sector procurement data from 1989-2006. The database provides estimates on the quantity, value and type of contraceptive support to countries.
