Fifth Meeting, New York 2006

The Fifth Meeting

On April 27-28, 2006, the Coalition convened in New York for its fifth semi-annual membership meeting, hosted by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). More than 50 people attended the two-day event, which aimed to share understanding of the key Coalition activities, challenges, and successes to date. Other objectives included finalizing Working Group workplans, increasing collaboration between Working Groups, and identifying Coalition priorities for 2006.

Outgoing Chair Elizabeth Lule opened the meeting by introducing the new Co-Chairs, Margret Verwijk and Wolfgang Bichmann, and new Coalition Director John Skibiak. Following the welcoming speech by UNFPA Executive Director Thoraya Obaid, plenary sessions updated participants on a new Financing Study, the UNFPA Global Programme and Thematic Trust Fund, the WHO Prequalification Programme, and Interagency List of Essential Medicines for RH. Two sets of concurrent Working Group meetings allowed the groups to work on their workplans and activities.
