Results of the COPE for Contraceptive Security Project in Malawi

06/05/2016

This webinar showcases the results from the COPE® for Contraceptive Security (COPE for CS) Project in Malawi. Implemented by EngenderHealth in partnership with the Ministry of Health, and with support from the RHSC Innovation Fund, the project worked to address contraceptive stockouts, especially at the “last mile” facility level. COPE for CS is an easy to use quality improvement methodology and tool that provides a framework for front line healthcare and logistics personnel to identify contraceptive security challenges and implement low-cost, local solutions.

The project was honored to recently host the Honorable Minister of Health, Dr. Peter Kumpalume, as well as other esteemed representatives at a dissemination meeting in Lilongwe. In his opening remarks the Minister noted, “An essential component of a comprehensive family planning program is contraceptive security – when people have regular, reliable, and equitable access to a choice of high-quality contraceptive methods and services to meet their reproductive health needs.” We couldn’t agree more.

The webinar includes information on the COPE for CS methodology itself as well as implementation, results, and stakeholder feedback regarding introduction and scale-up at 60 facilities across 10 districts in Malawi. EngenderHeath shares learnings to inform future adoption and scale-up in Malawi and beyond, and foster discussion on how use of the methodology highlights that everyone has a role to play in ensuring contraceptive security.
