Goal one in the Coalition's Strategic Plan relates to increasing the availability, predictability and sustainability of financing for reproductive health (RH) supplies by mobilizing increased funding from a variety of sources. Closely linked to this objective is goal three, which calls for building partnerships with key stakeholders to promote awareness and knowledge about RH supplies issues.

To meet these ends, the Resource Mobilization and Awareness Working Group (RMA WG) undertakes a wide variety of activities, including the production of a comprehensive "Advocacy Toolkit" and engaging a broader non-governmental organization (NGO) community on advocacy for RH supplies. RMA WG members include Population Action International (PAI), Partners in Population and Development, the United Nations Population Fund, International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), the German Foundation for World Population (DSW), and Marie Stopes International. The Co-Heads of the Working Group are Carolyn Vogel and Suzanne Ehlers from PAI.

Working in Partnership

The goals of the RMA WG are to:

  • Create an environment conducive to political support for RH supplies at country, regional and global levels
  • Secure increased financial resources for RH supplies at the country and global levels

In close collaboration with the other Working Groups, the RMA WG seeks to attain the following objectives:

  • Build and maintain linkages with Coalition Working Groups
  • Engage in country level advocacy as it relates to political and financial commitment to supplies
  • Engage in regional level advocacy and
  • Engage in advocacy at the global level with bilateral and multilateral institutions as it relates to political and financial commitment to supplies

Workstreams

The RMA WG undertakes a wide variety of activities, in partnership with other Working Groups and key initiatives.

  • Advocacy Toolkit: Without supplies, no health or poverty reduction programme or project can be successful. What we need is greater political commitment towards and financial support for reproductive health supplies. To help you make a case for supplies, the RMA Working Group has developed the advocacy guide and toolkit “Leading Voices in Securing Reproductive Health Supplies.” This comprehensive tool provides you with everything you need to reach the right decision-makers with effective communications and messages. • Project RMA: In late 2006, Project RMA (IPPF, PAI, and DSW), received funding to conduct resource mobilization and awareness activities outlined in the RMA WG Workplan. The Project works through a targeted set of advocacy and awareness-raising actions including the provision of financial and technical support to advocacy efforts of NGOs and NGO networks.
  • Supply Gap Analysis: USAID | DELIVER is working with the RMA WG to update data on the growing worldwide gap between the demand for contraceptive supplies and the availability of donor resources to procure them.
